Distribution/Origin:  Europe, native to B.C.'s interior 

Leaf/Bud: evergreen, 3 needles per fascicle, persistent sheath, 

Flower/Inflorescence: 

Fruit/Seed: brown cone, 3-4inch 

Stem/Bark: grey, platy 

Size: height 20-50m

Habit: upright, irregular 

Form: irregular, foliage tufting  (can look scraggly) 

Culture: full sun, well-drained soil, like it hot and dry 

Landscape Use: common landscape plant, large tree planting in park

Notes: quite inexpensive and very popular, fuel/lumber, common interior B.C., resistant to salt spray
