Common name: Persian Silk Tree 

Family: Fabaceae 

Origin: Asia 

Leaf / Stem / Roots: Bipinnate leaves 20-45cm long and 12-25cm broad divided into 6-12 pairs of pinnae each with 20-30 pairs of oblong leaflets that are about 1cm long and 2-3cm broad 

Bark: Dark green/grey and vertically striped  as it gets older 

Flower / Inflorescence: Produced in summer - July/August, dense pink and white inflorescence with fine hair-like stamens, fruit is a small flat brown pod, attract bees, butterflies and hummingbirds 

Size: 5-16m in height 

Habit: upright

Form: broad crown with level or arching branches 

Culture: full sun

Notes: ornamental shrub/tree grown for it's leaf texture and flowers, a mature tree makes for lovely dappled shade
